| Obverse description | Nude youth depicted in the act of dismounting from a rearing horse, the animal shown in right profile with forelegs raised. The rider grasps a whip in his right hand while his body twists dynamically in the field. The composition is rendered in fine archaic-to-early Classical style, with careful attention to the musculature of both horse and figure. The scene is set without border or legend, the artistic treatment characteristic of Cilician coinage of the early fourth century BC. |
