| Obverse description | Veiled and diademed head of Hera in right profile, adorned with a pendant earring and beaded necklace; the veil rendered with fine drapery folds characteristic of South Italian die-cutting of the period. Beneath the chin, a dolphin swims downward toward the neck truncation. Behind the neck, the Greek letter E appears in the field. The portrait displays accomplished three-quarter modeling typical of the finest Tarentine goldwork. |
