Obverse description Apple (melon) depicted in high relief at center, rendered with naturalistic plasticity showing the characteristic lobed surface and apical boss; the fruit is set within a shallow concave field, its form commanding nearly the full flan. The image constitutes a visual pun on the island's name, Melos, referencing the Greek word for apple. The flan is broad and irregular, typical of Cycladic hammered coinage of the Classical period, with no legend or border ornament.

Reverse description Five-pointed star (pentagram) rendered in bold incuse relief, occupying the full extent of a shallow incuse square or pelleted border, set within an oval incuse field. The letters of the ethnic legend MALICN (ΜΑΛΙCΝ, genitive plural of Malians, i.e. the people of Melos) are distributed among the triangular segments formed by the arms of the pentagram in archaic Greek script. The overall design is characteristic of the archaic and early classical Melian coinage, with the pentagram serving as the city's principal reverse badge.
