Obverse description Pegasus in flight to right occupies the upper field. In the lower field below the winged horse, the abbreviated ethnic inscription ΑΡ appears above a recumbent hound depicted in profile facing right, serving as an emblem of the issuing city. The design is rendered in the vigorous archaic-classical style characteristic of northwest Greek coinage of the fourth century BC.
