| Obverse description | Apollo depicted in full figure, striding to the right in an archaic Severe style. The deity raises his right hand aloft brandishing a laurel branch, while his left arm is extended forward, upon which a small running daimon (spirit figure) is perched. A stag stands in the right field before Apollo, facing right with its head turned back toward the god. The ethnic legend ΚΑVΛΟ appears in the field. The design is rendered in fine incuse relief, characteristic of the Achaean colonial coinage of Magna Graecia. |
