| Obverse description | Eagle of Zeus standing left upon a thunderbolt, wings folded against the body, head turned back to the right in a naturalistic pose. The bird is rendered with considerable sculptural detail, the feathering of the wings and breast carefully articulated in high relief. The magistrate's mark ΦΙ appears in the upper field. The composition fills the flan dynamically, reflecting the accomplished die-cutting of the Krotoniate workshop in its late period. |
