| Obverse description | Apollo depicted in full stride advancing right, his right hand raised aloft bearing a laurel branch, his left arm extended horizontally upon which a small daimon (spirit figure) runs rightward. To the left of Apollo, a bucranium (ox skull) faces outward amid the branches of a stylized tree. To the right, a stag stands right with head reverted upon a ground line (basis). The composition is rendered in the vigorous early Classical style characteristic of Magna Graecia, with a pelleted border encircling the design. |
