Reverse description Within a shallow incuse square, a large two-handled amphora (storage vessel) shown in front view, rendered with careful detail including voluted handles, a ribbed body, and a pedestal base. To the lower left of the amphora the letter Θ (Theta) appears, and to the lower right the letter Ε (Epsilon), together forming the abbreviation ΘΕ for Thebai (Thebes), identifying the issuing city. A small branch or spray is visible at lower right beside the Ε. The incuse square border is characteristic of early hammered coinage technique.
