Reverse description A tall tripod, ornamented with pendant fillets, occupies the centre of the field, serving as the principal civic emblem of Kroton. To the left, the god Apollo is depicted drawing his bow and shooting an arrow at the Python, shown writhing behind the tripod to the right. The ethnic inscription KPOTON appears in the field. The composition alludes to Apollo's slaying of the Python at Delphi and reflects Kroton's strong religious association with the Delphic sanctuary.
