| Obverse description | Poseidon depicted nude save for a chlamys draped over both outstretched arms, standing in three-quarter profile facing right in a dynamic pose, right arm raised aloft brandishing a trident poised to be cast. The left arm is extended forward for balance. The ethnic legend ΠOΣEIΔANI descends vertically to the right of the deity, accompanied by a dolphin oriented downward in the field, serving as a secondary symbol of the god's marine dominion. The figure is rendered in the vigorous early Classical style characteristic of Lucanian coinage. |

| Reverse description | A powerful bull strides left in high relief, its muscular form rendered with naturalistic detail characteristic of the finest South Italian die engraving. The animal stands on a ground line, with an octopus depicted between its legs as a secondary symbol referencing the city's maritime identity. The ethnic legend ΠOΣEIΔANI is inscribed in the upper field above the bull's back. The composition is bold and well-centred, displaying the accomplished artistry of the Poseidonian mint during the fourth century BC. |
