Obverse description Eagle displayed in flight to right, wings spread and partially folded, rendered with fine feather detail on the body and fan-shaped tail feathers; the bird's talons are outstretched below, gripping or descending upon prey. The design is boldly modelled in high relief against a smooth, unadorned field, characteristic of the archaic Cretan coinage tradition. The composition fills the flan with vigorous naturalism, with streaming wing feathers extending toward the upper right of the coin.
