The ethnic inscription ΚΑΡΥΣ is disposed around the cock in two groups, with ΚΑ above to the upper left and ΡΥΣ to the right, identifying the issuing city of Carystos in Euboia. The entire design is set within an irregular incuse square field typical of hammered silver coinage of this period. |
