Obverse description Facing left, the wreathed head of the goddess Tanit rendered in refined Hellenistic style, her hair bound with a grain wreath symbolising fertility and divine abundance. She wears a triple-pendant earring and a multi-strand pendant necklace, both executed with considerable detail for the scale of the die. The modelling of the facial features reflects strong Sicilian Greek artistic influence, likely from Syracuse, which was a major conduit of numismatic craft to Carthaginian workshops. The portrait occupies the full field of the flan with no border or legend.
