| Obverse description | A griffin, the civic emblem of Teos, rendered in the Archaic style, seated in profile to the right with large curled wings folded prominently over its back, the raised forepaw extended forward in a characteristic heraldic pose. The creature's eagle head features a sharply hooked beak and a prominent knob or button atop the skull, typical of Ionian griffin iconography of this period. A cock stands to the right of the griffin, serving as a secondary symbol in the field. The design is boldly modelled in high relief against a broadly plain field, exhibiting the confident, stylised draughtsmanship of late Archaic East Greek coinage. |
