Obverse description Boeotian shield depicted in high relief at center, its characteristic concave sides and lateral cutouts rendered with bold three-dimensional modeling. The shield fills the flan, its incurved flanks forming the emblematic silhouette associated with the Boeotian League coinage. The surface of the shield is convex and unadorned, set against a plain, slightly granular field with no additional legend or device. The hammered fabric of the flan is evident in the irregular outline of the coin. The design is typical of the Theban federal coinage of the late fifth century BC.
