Obverse description Sphinx seated to the left upon a decorative tendril issuing a bud and flower, rendered in the Archaic Cypriot style. The creature's right foreleg is raised, and the wings are depicted in fine parallel strokes rising above the body. A Cypriot syllabic inscription appears in the field. The composition reflects the strong Eastern Mediterranean artistic influence prevalent in early fifth-century BC Cypriot coinage.
