Obverse description Laureate head of Zeus facing right, depicted with flowing, heavily striated hair and a full, carefully rendered beard conveying mature divine authority. The olive wreath crown is rendered in fine relief, with individual leaves clearly articulated. The portrait displays strong, idealized Hellenistic features characteristic of the Elean artistic tradition associated with the sanctuary at Olympia. The relief is high and the modeling of the facial features is accomplished, reflecting the prestige of the mint issuing coinage in honor of the chief Olympian deity.

Reverse description Eagle standing right on an upright thunderbolt, wings closed, the bird rendered with careful attention to feather detail. To the left, an upright thunderbolt; to the right, a coiled serpent. The ethnic inscription F-A-H (abbreviation of FALEIΩN or the Elean ethnic) appears in the field around the eagle, identifying the issuing authority of the sanctuary at Olympia. The composition is well-balanced within the round flan, consistent with Elean stater coinage of the early third century BC.
