| Obverse description | A double-bodied sphinx presented heraldically, with two leonine bodies facing outward in opposite directions and a single human head facing forward at center, crowned with an uraeus (ouraios). The creature's large spread wings rise symmetrically above the conjoined bodies, rendered in fine archaic relief. The entire device rests upon a tunny fish oriented to the left, a recurring Cyzicene device serving as the civic emblem of the mint. The composition fills the broad, slightly convex flan in a bold and confident archaic Greek style. |
