| Obverse description | Aphrodite seated left upon a throne or cushioned seat, her right arm extended forward presenting a phiale, while her left arm is draped around the shoulders of Eros, who stands facing left at her side. Eros, depicted as a youthful winged figure, holds an open wreath in his raised left hand while his right arm reaches around Aphrodite's back in a tender reciprocal embrace. The composition is rendered in a refined Archaic-to-Classical transitional style characteristic of Cilician coinage of the early fourth century BC, with close attention to the interaction between the two divine figures. The field is plain, with no visible exergual line on the obverse. |
