The word “Hatikva” appears in Hebrew and English on the medal. The Hebrew is composed of letters in the handwriting of David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, and the English word is in the handwriting of Theodor Herzl, who first envisioned a Jewish state in Eretz Israel.
