| Obverse description | Facing frontal bust of Justinian II, bearded and crowned with a diadem, draped in imperial loros and military paludamentum with detailed engraving. The emperor holds a patriarchal cross potent on a globe in his left hand, rendered in the provincial Lombard interpretation of Byzantine imperial iconography. The facial features are rendered in a stylized, somewhat barbaric manner characteristic of Beneventan coinage, with prominent eyes and short beard. A Latin legend in debased lettering encircles the bust within a beaded border. |
