| Obverse description | Helmeted, pearl-diademed, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Marcian facing three-quarters to the right, wearing an elaborately decorated muscled cuirass with pteryges visible at the shoulder. The emperor holds a spear over his right shoulder and a shield adorned with a horseman motif is visible at the left. The surrounding legend reads D N MARCIA-NVS P F AVG, rendered in Latin capitals within a beaded border, consistent with the formal imperial portraiture of the mid-fifth century Constantinople mint. |

| Reverse description | A standing frontal figure of Victory, winged and robed, occupies the center of the field, holding a long jeweled cross in her right hand and a globus cruciger in her left. A star appears in the upper right field. The exergue bears the mint mark CONOB, denoting the Constantinople officina and confirming the coin's full gold standard weight. The surrounding legend VICTORI-A AVGGG is inscribed in Latin capitals, and the overall composition reflects the hieratic, symmetrical style characteristic of early Byzantine coinage. |
