Obverse description Right-facing bareheaded bust of the usurper Magnentius, rendered with finely engraved wavy hair swept back from the brow, his broad, strongly modelled features conveying an air of martial authority. The emperor is depicted draped and cuirassed, with the paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder visible below the bust truncation. The Latin legend D N MAGNEN-TIVS P F AVG (Dominus Noster Magnentius Pius Felix Augustus) runs along the outer border, framed by a beaded inner ring. The portrait is executed in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of mid-fourth-century Western imperial gold coinage.
