Obverse description Facing helmeted bust of Leo II or Zeno, pearl-diademed and cuirassed, the head turned very slightly; the emperor holds a spear diagonally behind his right shoulder in his raised right hand, while his left arm bears a large round shield decorated with a horseman motif. The legend arcs around the periphery of the flan, and the treatment of the armour and diadem reflects the formal imperial iconography of the late fifth century.
