Reverse description Full-length frontal standing figure of Emperor Justinian II, depicted in imperial regalia comprising the crown and jewelled loros. The right hand holds a cross potent set upon a two-stepped base, while the left hand bears the akakia, the rolled purple scroll symbolising imperial mortality. The figure is rendered in the flat, frontal hieratic convention of middle Byzantine court art. The surrounding legend, partly retrograde at the officina mark, identifies the emperor as servant of Christ and records the Constantinople mint signature.
