| Obverse description | Right-facing bearded bust of Emperor Julian II, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed, the paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder with a fibula. The emperor is depicted with his characteristic short beard, a hallmark of his Hellenic philosophical affectations. The pearl diadem, composed of a double row of beads, is tied at the back with ribbon ends falling behind the neck. The Latin legend FL CL IVLIA-NVS P F AVG encircles the effigy within a beaded border, identifying the emperor as Flavius Claudius Julianus, Pius Felix Augustus. |
