| Reverse description | Two enthroned personifications face one another in a symmetrical composition: Roma, helmeted and draped, seated frontally at left, holds a spear in her left hand; Constantinopolis, draped and crowned, seated left at right, holds a scepter in her left hand and rests her right foot upon a ship's prow, symbolizing naval dominion. Together they support a large shield inscribed with the votive legend VOT/XXX/MVLT/XXXX in four lines, commemorating Constantius II's tricennial and anticipating his fortieth year of reign. The reverse legend GLORIA REI PVBLICAE flanks the central group across the field, and the mintmark SMAN followed by the officina letter appears in the exergue. |
