Obverse description Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Avitus facing right, wearing a jewelled diadem with pendilia visible at the ear, the hair rendered in fine ridged strands. The emperor is depicted with a short beard and military paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, consistent with late Roman imperial portraiture. The Latin legend D N AVITVS-PER P F AVG (Dominus Noster Avitus Perpetuus Felix Augustus) runs around the periphery of the flan, partially visible due to the irregular striking surface.
