Obverse description Frontal bust of Emperor Anthemius, pearl-diademed, helmeted, and clad in cuirass, the head turned slightly to the right. The emperor holds a spear over his right shoulder and in his left arm carries a shield decorated with a horseman motif. The effigy is rendered in the late Roman imperial style characteristic of fifth-century solidus coinage, with strong linear engraving. The encircling obverse legend reads D N ANTHE-MIVS P F AVG.
