| Obverse description | Central field displays a large crowned Gothic letter H flanked on each side by a fleur-de-lis, the crown rising prominently above the monogram. The design is characteristic of the royal cipher coinage of Henri III of France. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the royal legend running around the outer edge between two beaded borders. The coin exhibits the irregular lobate flan typical of hammered billon coinage of the period. |
