| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Mariano Melgarejo facing left, with a full beard and naturalistically rendered hair, occupying the central field. The truncation is plain. A circular legend in Latin script reading EL HEROE DE DICIEMBRE arcs around the upper periphery, while a ring of evenly spaced six-pointed stars forms a decorative inner border encircling the entire design.
