Obverse description Two large ornate gates swing open to reveal a view of the San Francisco Bay with a lighthouse and exposition buildings in the field, flanked by laurel branches, with a rising sun motif and the dates 1849 and 1906 flanking a central medallion at the top. A border of thirty-eight stars surrounds the design, with the legend GOLDEN GATE at the top, PANAMA PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION and the date 1915 in the central field, and SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA along the lower border.
