| Obverse description | Central field features the French royal shield of arms, semé de lis (three fleurs-de-lis arranged 2-1), enclosed within a trefoil or trilobed inner border surmounted by a royal crown at the apex. The shield is set within a double annular border. The surrounding circular legend in uncial Latin characters reads KAROLVS FRAIICORVM RX, identifying Charles as King of the Franks. The entire design is contained within a beaded outer border typical of late medieval French billon coinage. |
