Obverse description Left-facing bust of Sir Rowland Hill in high relief occupying the central field, set within a beaded inner border. The surrounding legend reads his title and role as founder of the Penny Postage, with the date 1840. The engraver's signature H.B. SALE.F appears at the base of the truncation. The medal has a suspension hole pierced at the top.
