Reverse description Highly stylised Celtic horse advancing left, its body rendered with characteristic La Tène curvilinear abstraction. The mane is depicted as a row of pellets following the curve of the neck. The horse's head is large and open in form, a hallmark of Icenic coinage. Above the horse, a lozenge motif is present with a pellet placed at each of its four corners. Below the horse, a pellet-in-ring device occupies the lower field.

Additional information

The Iceni occupied what is now Norfolk and parts of Suffolk, operating as a nominally independent client kingdom under early Roman oversight following Caesar's expeditions. Coinage like this unit circulated within that arrangement — local enough to reflect tribal identity, yet issued during a period when Roman administrative pressure was already reshaping British tribal politics. The reign of Cunobelinus to the south was absorbing regional influence, and smaller Icenian issues from this window are thought to reflect a deliberate assertion of continued autonomy.

The "Toney" designation in the ABC series refers to the find concentration around Saham Toney, Norfolk.
