| Reverse description | A stylised horse, rendered in the distinctive abstract Celtic manner, is depicted in profile moving to the right across the central field. The body is schematically rendered with sinuous limbs, while above the horse's back a profuse spray of pellets and leaf-shaped ornaments fills the upper field in a characteristic Icenian decorative tradition. Below the horse, pellets and short linear strokes are arranged as ground-line fillers. To the right, a complex Celtic ornamental device of interlaced curves provides further embellishment. The overall composition exemplifies the late pre-Roman Iron Age artistic style of the Iceni, with strongly abstracted naturalistic forms. |
