Obverse description A fully armoured standing knight (the so-called 'Dutch warrior') depicted in three-quarter view facing right, his right hand raising a drawn sword and his left hand resting on a crowned heraldic shield bearing the rampant lion of Gelderland. The date 1659 is divided to either side of the central figure. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin monetary legend running continuously around the outer margin.
