| Obverse description | A fully armored knight stands facing, holding a bundle of arrows in his right hand and a sword upright in his left, symbolizing the armed sovereignty of the Dutch republic. At his feet rests a crowned shield bearing the arms of West Friesland, charged with two lions passant. The knight is rendered in detailed relief against a plain field, in the Renaissance-influenced style typical of Dutch provincial coinage. The encircling Latin legend reads MO: NO: ARG: PRO: CONFŒ: BELG: WESTFRI:, distributed around the full periphery of the obverse. |
