Obverse description A fully armored knight stands in three-quarter view to the right, his right hand raising a sword upright against his shoulder while his left hand grasps a ribbon or scroll. A crowned escutcheon displaying the arms of Gelderland — a rampant lion — rests at the knight's feet in the lower field. The figure is rendered in the bold, somewhat archaic style characteristic of late seventeenth-century Dutch provincial coinage. The encircling Latin legend reads across the periphery of the coin.

Reverse description A crowned shield bearing the arms of the Seven United Provinces — a lion rampant holding a sword and bundle of arrows — occupies the central field, with the date divided on either side of the shield. A privy mark appears above the crown, varying by year of issue and serving as a mintmaster's identifier. The heraldic composition is surrounded by a peripheral legend in Latin. The overall design follows the standard type adopted by the Dutch provincial mints for the silver ducat series.
