| Obverse description | A fully armored standing knight occupies the central field, depicted in three-quarter view facing right, with a drawn sword resting upon his right shoulder. His left hand holds a ribbon from which a shield bearing the arms of the Province of Overijssel is suspended at his side. The figure is rendered in the vigorous baroque style characteristic of Dutch provincial coinage of the late seventeenth century. The encircling Latin legend is interrupted by decorative stops and abbreviated titles identifying the issuing province and the monetary authority of the United Provinces. |
