| Obverse description | Facing gorgoneion (Metus) rendered in high relief, depicting the apotropaic visage with wide-set staring eyes, broad flat nose, and open gaping mouth with protruding tongue, all framed by flowing wavy hair spreading to either side across the flan. The face fills the entire obverse field, occupying the coin in the archaic Etruscan artistic tradition characteristic of Populonian coinage. The denomination mark XX appears below the gorgoneion in the lower field, indicating the value of 20 Asses. |
