Obverse description Bare male head facing left, adorned with a beaded necklace visible at the neck, rendered in archaic Etruscan style with finely engraved hair locks swept back from the brow. The denomination mark appears in the field to the right of the head, incused as the numeral VII denoting the value of 2½ Asses in the local notation. The facial features are boldly modelled with a prominent eye, strong jaw, and slightly parted lips characteristic of Populonian coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, typical of hammered Etruscan silver issues of this period.
