| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Emperor Valentinian I rendered with finely detailed engraving, the effigy pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed. The diadem is prominently articulated with a double row of pearls, and the paludamentum is fastened at the right shoulder with a fibula. The cuirass displays elaborate decorative work consistent with late Roman imperial portraiture. The legend encircles the bust in the field, reading from the lower left in a continuous arc. The overall style reflects the refined silversmith tradition of the Nicomedia mint during the Valentinianic period. |
