| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valens facing right, wearing a pearl diadem with elaborate beaded strands and a paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The emperor's features are rendered with fine Late Roman portraiture, conveying imperial authority. The encircling Latin legend reads D N VALENS P F AVG, distributed around the bust within a plain border. The flan is slightly irregular, typical of hammered silver coinage of the period. |
