| Obverse description | Right-facing draped and cuirassed bust of Valentinian I, adorned with a pearl diadem, rendered in the late Roman imperial portrait style characteristic of the Valentinianic period. The emperor's effigy displays finely detailed hair and a prominent jaw, with the cuirass visible at the shoulder. The encircling Latin legend reads D N VALENTINI-ANVS P F AVG, identifying the emperor as dutiful and pious lord Augustus. The flan shows the irregular hammered form typical of late Roman silver coinage. |
