Siemens Nixdorf produced test notes in-house for calibrating and validating their banknote processing and sorting machinery — ATMs, counting machines, fitness sorters. These were never intended as currency and carry no denomination or central bank authority. The company itself served as both issuer and printer, which was practical: proprietary test media ensured consistent physical tolerances without relying on actual banknotes, which raised obvious security and accountability problems in a manufacturing environment.

Siemens Nixdorf merged from Siemens' data systems division and Nixdorf Computer AG in 1990, and was subsequently absorbed into Wincor Nixdorf in 1999. Notes from this specific branding window are therefore datable to that nine-year period.
