| Obverse description | Armored and cuirassed bust of Mihnea III (Mihail Radu) facing right, wearing a crown and holding a sceptre resting on his right shoulder. The effigy is rendered in a bold, slightly crude hammered style typical of 17th-century Wallachian coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central design, incorporating the date 1658. The legend reads the prince's full intitulature as Ioan Michail Radu, by the grace of God Prince of Transalpine Wallachia. |

Mihail Radu's tenure as Prince of Wallachia was fractured and contested — he ruled in multiple interrupted stints during the 1650s, installed and removed by Ottoman pressure and rival boyar factions. Small bronze issues like this one filled a practical gap in local exchange, the Ottoman monetary system never fully penetrating the day-to-day commerce of the Wallachian countryside. The designation "2nd series" in the MBR classification reflects distinct die work tied to his later period of rule, after his restoration.
