Additional information

Tahmasp I ruled for over half a century — the longest reign in Safavid history — but the early 1540s were among his most precarious years, with the Ottoman sultan Suleiman launching successive campaigns deep into Persian territory. The Kirman mint remained active through this pressure, striking provincial silver that kept local economies functional when northwestern mints were disrupted or temporarily lost.

Album 2599 distinguishes this as the Third Western Standard, a metrological classification reflecting deliberate adjustments Tahmasp's administration made to silver weight norms across different regional mint systems.
