Reverse description A patente cross occupies the central field, with stars placed at the first and third angles of the cross arms. The design is enclosed within a ribbed or beaded crown border. A rosette serves as an initial mark. The legend, reading S ERCVLANVS in Latin characters, refers to Saint Herculanus, patron and bishop-martyr of Perugia. An inverted N appears within the legend, a characteristic feature of this issue.
