| Obverse description | Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, with strongly modelled features characteristic of Flavian portraiture, rendered in high relief. The emperor's mature physiognomy is depicted with naturalistic detail, including a broad brow and heavy neck. A circular Latin legend runs around the periphery of the field, interrupted by the portrait. The bust is bare-shouldered, consistent with the conventional treatment for this sestertius type struck at Rome in AD 71. |
